Guatemala Sightseeing
Guatemala is the land of the eternal Spring, brilliant textiles, and the beautiful Mayan people. While visiting their child, most AAI families spend a few extra days seeing Guatemala and absorbing the culture. We especially recommend visiting:
- Antigua
- a quaint town at the foot of a volcano
- cobblestone streets
- brightly painted homes and shops with red tile roofs
- beautiful Central Park in the center of town
- marimba bands can often be heard on the weekends
- walled Artisan's Market provides hours of shopping and bargaining for Guatemalan handiwork in a comfortable, safe environment
Those who are a little more adventuresome and have the time can:
- take a two-day trip to Tikal, the ancient Mayan ruins in northern Guatemala
- stay at the Jungle Lodge at the entrance to the ruins and fall asleep in your own cottage to the beautiful jungle sounds
- tour the ruins with a Mayan guide
- visit Lake Atitlan
